     From beautiful Lake Sakakawea to the majestic badlands, the western North Dakota landscape is as inspiring as the people who live here.  Our history is exciting, too, filled with drama and peopled with wonderful characters.  This is the area where, in 1806, The Explorer, Captain Meriwether Lewis, while on a hunting trip in the rugged Butte area near Lund's Landing Marina & Lodge was shot in the buttocks.  You can retrace the explorer's footsteps along our celebrated Lake Sakakawea and visit our Lewis & Clark interpretive trail.  Or browse through artifacts at one of our many area museums and sample some of our regional cuisine like pan fried walleye and Juneberry pie

Lewis & Clark Trail Head

The Lund's Landing Marina & Lodge area is rich in Lewis & Clark history. 

While on a hunting trip in the rugged Butte area near Lund's Landing Marina & Lodge, Captain Meriwether Lewis was shot in the buttocks.  This was the only gunshot injury of the Corps of Discovery Expedition.
